My name is Jenna Linnekens and I am running for Santa Monica City Council because I believe our leaders have neglected important issues for far too long. I grew up around the Santa Monica area, and it saddens me to see our quality of life deteriorating. Our quaint seaside town has become overcrowded, gridlocked and overrun by vagrants. We must do better!
VAGRANCY
- Residents and visitors to our city should not fear aggressive panhandling, public intoxication and those who defile our parks and streets.
- Working with community leaders I will propose new policies to stem the endless flow of vagrants to our city.
- We must make sure that our current programs are effective and tied to a regional strategy. Santa Monica cannot solve the problem of homelessness for all of Los Angeles.
PUBLIC SAFETY
- I believe we need to increase the uniformed police presence in our parks, Promenade and neighborhoods with a high-propensity for crime as part of a "See and Be Seen" program.
- I will support our police department and encourage them to fully enforce existing laws.
PLANNING AND LAND USE
- I will fight for moderate for-sale housing to maintain our community's essential diversity.
- Traffic and commute times can be reduced with my support for smart-growth policies and mixed use development.
- We must provide affordable, for-sale housing so Santa Monica's police officers, firefighters can live where they work.
EDUCATION
- Our children deserve better school buildings, facilities and infrastructure.
- As your City Council member I will work to provide a safe, enriching educational environment for all our children.
