My political philosophy is to work to set direction and policy and expect staff to carry out what has been set. Staff is not the entity to set policy and should not be the author of direction, simply using an elected board as a rubber stamp. Too often, an elected board allows staff to set the direction. This completely bypasses the oversight role of an elected board.
My position is to allow staff to do their job, but the elected board is responsible for setting the guidelines and direction for that job. Staff needs to accept electorate direction for the path to take, rather than assume the role of setting policy.
