Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Arcata

This information is provided by the candidate

I am an attorney working most of the last 20 years in the criminal justice field. Currently I am a Senior Deputy District Attorney in Paul Gallegos' office. I am assigned to the Child Abuse Services Team (C.A.S.T.) as the prosecuting attorney. My responsibility, along with a wonderful and large team of experts throughout the county, is to bring to justice those persons who sexually or physically abuse children. The assignment also includes prosecuting rape cases.

Over the years I've been a registered Democrat and a registered Green Party member. Today I am Green Party member and have been for several years.I was a member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club's Environmental Defense Committee.

I have a master's degree in Journalism from Columbia University in New York and spent a few years working for New York City newspapers before going into the criminal justice field.

I have a great deal of experience in real estate law and real estate transactions, which has peaked my interest in my plan to bring a thousand affordable homes to Arcata, for all Arcatans including people making under $30,000 a year and up. Check out my blog for the details under the posting "Habitat for Arcata."

I have lived most of my adult life in San Francisco until I moved to Humboldt County with my wife Marcy and my 18-month old baby Ana. Ana is going to grow up here in Arcata and Marcy is a professor of journalism on a tenure track at Humboldt State University. It's not how long I've lived here, it is how long I plan to stay.

There is a big world at there that I was fortunate to live in. That experience has enabled me to bring to Arcata and this campaign solid workable ideas that I've seen work in other progressive cities around the country and world.

Those ideas include my City Zero Emission Car Share Program, free fully-mixed curbside recycling, zero emission shuttle service and a one-stop integrated homeless service center that will help the homeless and solve our homeless problem.
