I have lived in Castro Valley for 27 years and have served on the Eden Medical Center Board of Directors for the last 16 years. I was the Public Information Officer for he Alameda County Office of Education for 14 years before retiring. Before that, I was Executive Assistant to the CEO of Eden Medical Center for three years. Previously, I was Administrative Assistant to the Executive Dean at Chabot Community College for three years.
I have a BA in Communicatios from CSU Fullerton and 16 units towards an MA in Business Administration from CSU Hayward. Since being elected to the Eden Board I have attended many classes to educate myself in being a better and more effective Board member--including Ethics training.
Among my community activities: League of Women Voters, Eden Area, 12 years, serving as president for three and taking other board positions in order to educate and empower voters. I have also been on the Hispanic Community Affairs Council Board for 25 years. This is a community-based, grassroots organization that raises and gives scholarship money to students to attend four-year colleges, community colleges or continuing education toward higher degrees.
I am also an active member of the Ashland Health Collaborative, which secures health classes for the community as well as sponsoring health fairs. Also, the San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland Collaborative which works on getting after school activities for students in low socio-economic areas.
I an active on the Child Care Planning Council and was appointed to this position by the Board of Supervisors and County Superintendent.
