John Chiang's Candidate Statement as it appears in the March 7, 2006 Voters Information Pamphlet
As a CPA and senior financial officer for major public companies for 25 years, I understand sound fiscal management. I have actively participated in our community, including Piedmont schools, for 15 years and support the cooperative partnership between the city and school district. I have served on Piedmont's Municipal Tax Review Committee (Chair, 2003); Capital Improvement Projects Committee (Chair, 2003); Civil Service Commission; Educational Foundation (President, 2001); PUSD Strategic Planning Committee; Boy Scouts Council (VP Finance since 2004); and Piedmont Community Church Christian Education board. I have served for 10 years on the Piedmont Asian American Club board (President, 1990, 1995) and 20 years on the board of the Asian Business League of SF. I hold degrees from UCLA (MBA) and UC Berkeley (BSEE). My wife, Maggie, daughter Julia (Brown University), son Bryan (PHS sophomore) and I have lived in Piedmont since 1982. I believe in listening to all viewpoints, value our community diversity, and strongly support consensus building to resolve community issues. I bring an extensive professional finance and volunteer background to the challenge of running our city efficiently on a solid fiscal basis, while preserving the attributes that make Piedmont a special place. I ask for your support.
