I am a long-time resident of Burlingame and a marketing communications professional with more than 33 years of experience with blue chip technology organizations. I have conceived, developed and implemented numerous corporate positioning programs including the development and implementation of multi-million dollar budgets for a wide variety of companies. For the past 19 years I have operated Dan Andersen and Associates, a marketing communications consulting firm supporting high-technology companies.
I have served as director of corporate communications with NEC, Quality Semiconductor, Micrel Semiconductor, Galileo Technology, and SiliconPipe, among others. I am currently a vice president of the Burlingame Lions Club, he was the past co-chair of the Citizens for a Better Burlingame, I am currently the chairman for the Washington Park Society. I have been active in supporting our local schools and was a prime motivator in the "$32 Solution" to raise funds for the school crossing guard program. I was instrumental in the "Adopt-a-Planter" program on Burlingame Avenue. I haave conducted forums on "Smart Growth" and introduced the concept of mixed-use development within Burlingame's core downtown area.
Along with the residents of Trousdale Drive, I developed the "Don't Zap Us" program that successfully defeated PG&E's plan to place 230kV high-voltage power lines down the middle of their street, which is one of the main thoroughfares in Burlingame.
In addition to his community activities, I have volunteered my time to support CALL Primrose, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, CORA (serving victims of domestic violence), and the Cleo Eulau Center (helping children of adversity).
I have also been actively involved in Burlingame's Specific Area Plans for the Northend/Rollins Road area and the Bayfront area as well as the City's Housing Element Plan. I was a member of the Burlingame Downtown Improvement Committee, and I am currently a member of the City's scoping committee for the Burlingame Downtown Economic Study.
I hold a BS degree in business management from Golden Gate University, an AA in mathematics from the College of San Mateo, and teaching certificate from the University of California. I also wrote Tiger Advertising, a how-to book for business-to-business marketing communications.
