1. In the light of the League's long-term commitment to education, we are concerned about funding schools adequately and equitably in a climate of "no new taxes". How can you assure voters that the schools are using state funds wisely and fairly, and that requests for additional funding are the result of true need rather than waste or frivolity?

Answer from Wendy (Wool) Bockholt:

The best way to do assure voters that funds are being used wisely and fairly is to encourage, welcome and seek out community involvement. Board meetings are open to the public and Sunnyvale School District is active in enrolling stakeholder participation. Citizen's oversight committees oversee spending of bond monies.

Answer from Anita Herrmann:

Transparency will help assure voters that their tax dollars are spent wisely and equitably. Sunnyvale School District has citizen's oversight committees for its Bond Measures, and encourages citizen particpation in the budget and goal assessment process. We must continue to educate citizens about District safeguards and the Legislators about education needs and deficiencies.

Answer from Jeffrey D. Arnett:

The process we have to develop and pass the budget is open to the public. Our District goes to great lengths to inform, educate, and hear input from the public as to how the District prepares each year's budget. As a Board we have been successful in establishing agreed upon goals and objectives to direct and guide the administration when developing the budget. This process also allows for each Board member to assess the impact of the budget to achieve the goals.

Last year, our District successfully passed a bond measure, and the District, (as required by law), quickly established a bond oversight committee made up of members of our community. This process too, was open for public for review and input.
