Letter from a friend in support of Bill's candidacy
Why I like Bill Madsen:
Bill Madsen is a neighbor of mine, so to speak, and I have to say I've admired him for a long time. Bill's a very friendly guy who will always take the time to stop and talk with you, about anything at all--he's well-read, intelligent, and seems capable of carrying on a conversation on almost any topic. He's not `high-brow' though. He seems really to be interested in our common sufferings, and I think that he secretly wishes he could do more to help. (Personally, I think he suffers from a lot of guilt from his childhood--I understand he was raised Mormon.) But so much the better for the rest of us.
I've seen Bill work on the Planning Commission, and he really seems to be able to listen to the public or the other Commissioners when they speak. He never rolls his eyes, or guffaws, or sighs, when others are talking, and when he speaks out, he seems to treat everybody with courtesy and respect. He seems to have a gift for finding sensible and logical solutions, and I can tell you that he will be missed when he leaves the Commission. That's the only reason I can think of not to vote for him for the Town Council.
Bill has a lovely family, and he's great with kids. I let him watch my own all the time. He coaches soccer, and I've heard from some of the parents that he does a terrific job. "He really works on building a team, not just exploiting a few talented players." He told me that one of the parents said that.
Bill doesn't strike me as your regular politician type--his answers aren't always so smooth and polished, nor does he always seem to have one ready. But I like that about him--I never trust a guy who has all the answers. I do know that Bill is willing to work with others to try and find answers, and isn't afraid to give credit to the people that find those solutions.
I think Bill would be good on the Fairfax Town Council--he's not officious or pedantic--he's self-effacing and human. If I had to approach the Council to talk about something, I know I could talk to Bill comfortably, with the confidence that he would hear what I had to say.
I hope this letter isn't too corny, but I really feel this way, and I felt that I should say something, because I like Bill so much.
Thanks for listening,
Bill Madsen
