Political Philosophy for Ford Greene
Candidate for |

|
I best describe my political philosophy as radical conservative. My politics are the politics of survival. This means that I am basically conservative in my views. I believe in all forms of conservation as necessary to survival: minimal taxing, fiscal accountability and budgetary planning, global environmental restraint, and the preservation and protection of fundamental constitutional values and civil liberties of the individual and the minority, especially freedom of speech and the right to dissent. The radical part comes in when those in charge have screwed the conservation parts up so badly that uncompromising action is required to regain the balance. This is where I see our Country today. The recent Supreme Court decision (Kelko v. New London) to support the use of state authority in eminent domain to take the houses of individual citizens and give them to a private developer; holding U.S. citizen Jose Padilla for years without trial or counsel under the Patriot Act because he was merely labeled a "terrorist"; "perception management" to avoid accountability for starting a war on lies and to deny Climate Change; and the abject failure to rescue Katrina Victims and now pay Halliburton's Kellogg, Brown and Root to rebuild it are symptoms that our way of life is in grave danger. As the federal government continues to lay waste to our economy, our standing in the World, and our own freedoms while handing over our economic well-being to global corporations, all the while denying the fact of global warming and climate change, chances are American life will get a lot tougher. Traditional liberals don't tend to survive well in tough environments. Even though I am still registered a Democrat, I am not one of those. I am a survivor. Assuming our society continues to fall apart, local government will become more and more important. Clarity of reasoned thinking, honesty of disclosure and the willingness to take particularly risks will be qualities of increased necessity. These are the qualities I hope to bring to public life. |
