Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Bellflower Unified School District

I was born in Glendale California in 1952 (the first of five children). My parents moved the family to Bellflower two years later, in 1954. I attended Los Flores Elementary, Bellflower Christian Schools, Bellflower High School, Chino High School, Mt. SAC Jr. College, Palmer College of Chiropractic and Newport University.

In 1975, after receiving my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in Davenport Iowa, I returned home, to Bellflower, to join my father's practice. In 1979, my father retired and I took over the Clinic. In 1983, I completed my Doctorate in Human behavior. I have authored several books and professional papers and I have served on the Post Graduate faculty of Los Angeles Chiropractic College. In 1985, I became a State Certified Medical Examiner for the Workers Compensation Appeals Board. That same year I became Board Certified in Thermal Diagnostics and Pain Management. In 1992, I became amoung the first Chiropractors in California to be credentialed and join the staff of a local hospital, where I became Board Certified and specialized in Manipulation under Anesthesia.

Presently, I am enjoying my 30th year in practice in Bellflower and my 25th year as owner/director of Helzer Healing Arts Center, which offers traditional and alternative health care to our community.

I have been very active in my childrens schooling, having guest lectured many times and in 1999 I was a recipient of the Lindstrom PTA "Honorary Service Award".

In 2001, I was elected to serve as a member of the Board of Education for Bellflower Unified School District. Over the past 4 years, as well as being a member, I have also served as President, Vice President and Clerk.

As Past President of the Bellflower Lions Club, member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Bellflower Masonic Lodge, I have served this community at many different levels. I am experienced in management and a successful business owner.

I have four daughters, two grandchildren and have been married to my wife Beverly for 22 years.
