This information is provided by the candidate |
I began my career as a police officer working for the LAPD. In 1966 I left the department and began a 4 year carpenter apprenticeship program. As a journeyman foreman, I was responsible for the construction of the several large projects including the Van Nuys Federal Building and Saugus High School. In 1974, I joint the LAUSD and soon was promoted to a supervisor, a DSA construction inspector, a facilities planner and finally a school facilities project manager. As a project manager, I was responsible for the construction of several new schools, the addition of hundreds of classrooms at existing schools and the modernization of countless schools. I authored two manuals, which are still in use by many school districts. I was the first to build a design/build project for LAUSD and oversaw the construction of a $35 million middle school in recent times. I retired after 30 years and began a school consulting firm. Over the past few years, contractors have become more litigious, prompting district's to rely on the advice of attorneys. In an attempt to curtail these rising construction costs, I have taken numerous classes, courses and seminars in construction law resulting in the savings to school districts of hundreds of thousands of dollars. I am a member of several professional organizations that work together to benefit school districts. I am continuously updating my education to remain current on the numerous legislative bills, regulations and procedures pertaining to school facilities and educational programs. |
