INFRASCRUCTURE & SAFETY BIG ISSUES IN DISTRICT 14By Crystal ArceoCandidate for Council Member; City of Los Angeles; District 14 | |

TRAFFIC CONGESTION.... REPAVE & REPAIR OF OUR STREETS AND SIDEWALKS.... TREE TRIMMING.... GRAFFITI.... ILLEGAL TRASH DUMPING.... INCREASING LAPD WORK FORCE.... EMERGENCY PREPAREDNSS AGAINST AVIAN FLU PANDEMIC HEAD THE LIST.My top priorities all have to do with infrastructure. Our communities are under siege. The small things that make are quality of life issues are not being addressed. Are we going to come together and change our lives ? Can we solve these problems that have a big effect on how we live ? Do we have strategies for traffic congestion ? Do we repave and repair our streets and sidewalks, and address tree trimming ? Can we reduce density of liquor sales locations within confined areas, strongly enforce and prosecute illegal trash dumping, and graffiti ? Can we increase the number officers on our LAPD force and can we protect our open spaces in our canyons and hillsides ? The answer to all of these questions is YES and they are my top priorities and could have a big effect on how we see our future and our communities. THERE IS ANOTHER ISSUE THAT I HAVE JUST BEEN MADE AWARE OF, THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MY CANDIDACY. THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAS MENTIONED IT FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK AND THE MAJORITY AND MINORITY LEADERS OF THE U. S. SENATE APPEARED ON NIGHTLINE ON SEPTEMBER 29,2005 TO WARN THE AMERICAN PUBLIC OF A VERY SERIOUS DISEASE.... THE AVIAN FLU....ALL OF OUR LEADERS MENTIONED ABOVE INCLUDING THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES HAVE SAID THAT IT IS A QUESTION OF WHEN, NOT IF, THIS PANDEMIC WILL EFFECT THE UNITED STATES. THEY HAVE ALL STATED THAT EACH STATE AND LOCAL CITY GOVERNMENT WILL BE ON ITS OWN TO DEAL WITH THE FOOD, WATER, MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO SUSTAIN ITS CITIZENS DURING THIS PANDEMIC. LOCAL GOVERNMENT WILL BE CHARGED WITH BURYING THE DEAD AND ATTEND TO THE ILL. SO I WILL BE MOVING THIS ISSUE TO BE MY NUMBER ONE CONCERN AT ALL FUTURE DEBATES AND FORUMS. |
