- parent of two grown children, ages 28 and 31; wife to Ken Petrulis, an attorney, and National 1/AYSO referee
- teacher, administrator, and educator with the breadth of experience that will support excellence in Redondo Beach Schools. I have a proven record of educational leadership
- native Southern Californian. My husband Ken and I chose to move, permanently, from West Los Angeles to Redondo Beach almost four years ago. Redondo Beach is our home!
- proud to have earned the following PTA awards: Very Special Person; Honorary Service; and Continuing Service
- elementary teacher for 11 years, including preschool and special education
- elementary principal for 20 years: instituted "flexible team" work schedules for teachers, enhancing the educational experience for students, as well as retaining strong teachers at the school
- central and local district administrator, serving as Director of Instructional Support for 65 schools and 65,000 students leading my staff to support all curricular areas and all levels of learners-preschool, elementary, middle, and high school
- experienced educator who has worked in a variety of settings: small and large school systems, high and low socioeconomic populations, experienced and inexperienced staff, and special education and second language learners
- member of the California State Department of Education Content Review Panel, reviewing all language arts state test items, grades 2-11 (former Stanford 9/Current CAT 6)
- grant writer for my schools, bringing in additional and outside funding to the schools to strengthen and enhance current programs and build new ones. (over $3million)
- experienced with school construction, having renovated two schools, worked on bond elections and understand the restrictions and opportunities in bond funds
Awards and Honors:
- one of six national collaborative awards from the National Councils of Cities, Mayors, Governors and School Boards Association for the collaborative built around the school integrating and providing support and services to school families and the greater community
- Major participant in a team that was a national runner-up for the Holmes Award, Nancy Zimpher Award for Best Partnership awarded for leadership in educational reform by a collaborative program. The Holmes Partnership is a network of universities, schools and national professional organizations working together to create high quality professional development. I represented the School District part of the partnership with California State University, Dominguez Hills
