Nancy Pearlman, in a second term, plans to do even more for sustainable campuses, sound fiscal management, and high academic standards. She will also lobby for more funding and reduced fees
During her first tenure as a Trustee, Nancy Pearlman has kept her campaign promises of: Working for Higher Academic Standards, Making Campuses Ecological and Economical, as well as Improving Fiscal Management and Responsibility.

Nancy has advocated for:

  • tough sustainability standards resulting in the LACCD becoming the first community college district in the nation to adopt a LEED's standard for its bond-funded building projects
  • adoption of sustainable/ecological guidelines for non-bond renovation work
  • honors programs at all of the nine colleges and support for high academic achievers

Nancy has supported:
  • modernizing payroll and human resources records through computerization
  • cutting back on wasteful positions and consultancies to improve financial operations
  • open dialogue at public meetings and more Committees of the Whole

Nancy has worked for:
  • having healthful food served at each campus
  • removal of toxic substances and notification of toxic usage
  • maintaining unique opportunities for educational studies such as the Gold Creek Reserve Nancy has lobbied for:
  • Equitable funding for the community colleges
  • Keeping student fees low and lowering book prices
  • No state budget cuts

Nancy consistently addresses the needs of all employees including faculty, management, and classified; promotes and publicizes the valuable offerings and classes of the community colleges; advocates for more community participation; speaks for vocational job training as well as academic programs; and supports student engagement

Nancy is uniquely qualified to continue as a Trustee. She has a BA in Anthropology, MA in Urban Studies and Planning with an Environmental Studies Specialty, and has had three Teaching Credentials. She has served as an administrator and member on numerous boards of directors for conservation and ecological organizations. She has taught at the secondary and college level. She has produced and hosted over 2000 radio and television programs. She is a professional folk dancer and former international athletic competitor. She has always been an educator and public servant and continues to dedicate her career to improving life for all.

Nancy Pearlman's accomplishments and efforts are many, including but not limited to: Leading efforts to have a sustainability policy that has two billion dollars in bond money spent ecologically and economically; getting the certified-silver LEED's standards passed Voting for the Project Labor Agreement Supporting Comprehensive Master Plan Drafts and Draft Environmental Impact Reports to be brought to a Committee of the Whole Getting used supplies and equipment recycled and reused through an internet distribution rather than putting items in trash Providing a voice for adjunct faculty in their push for equity Lobbying for equal pay to the community colleges from the State of California Pushing for getting board agendas "noticed" early Encouraging Committee of the Whole discussions and hearings on policies Working on establishing new certificated programs such as for Park Management and Design Voting against settlement of cases when the LACCD was not at fault (supported going to trial) Supporting partnering with the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, State Parks and regional parks located near campuses for innovative activities and land utilization Raising level of involvement of Trustees as representatives of the LACCD Advocating for ergonomic furniture and healthy work stations (elimination of toxics, etc.) Nancy Pearlman's Continued Goals: Keep availability of classes and keep class sizes small Utilize district-wide coordination for program offerings to reduce duplication Have quality food service at all campuses Obtain more foundation grants for regular programs and faculty chairs Fight state budget cuts to community colleges Remove requirement for college buildings to be approved by the State Architect (to avoid a six to twelve-month average delay) Ensure that thorough evaluations of all employees be conducted regularly Maintain high teaching standards Promote opportunities at colleges in all local communities
