How can I help? I have been active in politics for many years. I was a Los Angeles County, City of West Hollywood board appointee in 2001. I have worked on city council campaigns as well as my last bid for the Los Angeles Community College District, Board of Trustees in 2003. I have endorsed candidates and contributed to them. During this past year, I worked closely with Families to Amend California's Three Strikes Law to bring some sensibility to this horrendous law which imprisons mostly poor people and poor people of color for 25 years to life for non-violent, nonserious offenses. I am a Democrat with an eye on issues that will affect the environment. I am a constant active volunteer and an animal rights activist, volunteering for the American Cancer Society and Best Friend's Catnipppers. I am a member of the Sierra Club, Treepeople, the World Wildlife Fund and the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. I contribute to Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter's Habitat for Humanity International, American Lung Association, National Institutes of Health and the Medical Research Program of the Department of Defense to fund Breast Cancer research, Federal Emergency Management Agency: America Responds/Heroes to provide assistance to the families of emergency relief personnel who died or were permanently disabled in the line of duty in connection with the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, West Hollywood Veteran's Memorial, Pet Orphans Fund, Defender's of Wildlife, ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Butterfly Gardeners Association, Oceana, Air Force One and Save the Children. As a candidate for the L.A.C.C.D. I promote higher academic standards for the Community Colleges of Los Angeles County as well as increased student enrollment while maintaining the low tuition and diversity for which the community colleges are known. |
