David Taumoepeau was born and raised in South San Francisco. A son of immigrants, his parents came in search of a better life for their family. His father was an ironworker at the Old Bethlehem Steel Plant, and his mother worked at the San Francisco Hilton. They urged David and his siblings to pursue a quality education because it was essential to their success in America. David studied Classical Piano and graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He worked for a major Wall Street firm, and eventually started his own dot.com on the East Coast. When his father passed away last year, he came home to be with his mother. He now teaches music to young children (ages 5-13), and spends his free time mentoring at-risk youth on job placement and college preparation. He is on the Commission for Disabilities for San Mateo County, and is active in various community organizations.
