Shall the City borrow $60,000,000 to buy, renovate or preserve historical resources owned by the City or the San Francisco Unified School District?
When the City provides money to repair and preserve historical resources, additional funds are often made available from state, federal and private sources. THE PROPOSAL: Proposition B would allow the City to borrow $60,000,000 by issuing general obligation bonds. The City would use this money to buy, renovate or preserve historical resources. Proposition B would require: o The Board of Supervisors must create procedures before the bonds are sold to oversee projects that use bond funds; o The City or School District must secure additional funding from other public and private sources to ensure completion of the project; and o No single project may receive more than 20% of the total bond funds. Proposition B would require an increase in property taxes to pay for the bonds. Principal and interest on general obligation bonds are paid by property tax revenues. Landlords could pass on to tenants in rent-controlled units half the increase in property taxes resulting from this bond measure. A two-thirds majority vote is required for passage of this bond measure.
