About the CandidateBy Jim MacfarlaneCandidate for Board Member; Moreland School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Mr. Macfarlane's platform is one that will provide the best education possible for our children.Occupation: Father/Businessman/Moreland Personnel Commissioner How long have you lived in the city? 31 years, and lived 10 years in the Moreland District. What leadership roles, if any, have you taken in government or the community? Currently, I'm a member of the Moreland District's Personnel Commission, and former member of the Handspring Foundation, which supported local and world-wide charitable causes with product and monetary grants. What is the most important issue in your election? For the Moreland District, we must continue to improve our schools. Many of our schools are making the grade and have been deemed "top performers", while others are struggling. We need to ensure that performance standards are met, ensure that a safe and nurturing environment exists for our students, and hold our administrators accountable for their progress. By doing so, we will improve our schools, and build strong and vibrant neighborhoods to raise our families. If elected, how would you deal with this issue? As a Trustee, I will work to eliminate any budgetary waste and ensure the funds find their way back the school rooms. I will seek innovative ways to ensure measured progress at our under-performing schools, and I will look for new ways to build partnerships with the corporate community and other local organizations to further help support our district. I will also make the safety of our students a top priority. Together, we can make our schools better! |
