Communication, collaboration, community. During the recent school closings, many parents were left feeling anxious, frustrated and undervalued. Faced with a statewide budget crisis and stagnant student enrollment, I understand the need to close two schools; I object to the manner in which it was handled. In an age of timely, efficient and cost-effective electronic forms of communication, many parents have been forced to wonder and speculate about the status of school closings and new boundaries. Open and honest communication could have decreased the sense of angst among parents and students. If elected, I will seek to strengthen communication among the board, district administration, teachers, school administration, staff, parents and the community. I will further seek to cultivate an atmosphere where parents feel involved, respected and informed. |
