I look forward to bringing a unique perspective which will strengthen the board and give our students a better education.Education is the first step on our children's road to fulfilling their life dreams. As a community we owe it to our children to give them all the opportunities we can to succeed in this journey. Students today face a rapidly changing, technology-driven world in which the power of education has never been more important. I am running for Santa Barbara District School Board because I am committed to strengthening our public schools and preparing our students to face the challenges of the 21st century. I believe our school board will be strongest if its five members can contribute different, but complementary perspectives. Being a younger member of the community will allow me to help the school board address issues it hasn't focused on before. As a current UCSB philosophy honors student and recent Dos Pueblos High graduate I offer a unique understanding today's challenges facing our students. I look forward to working with the school board to integrate modern technology into our schools, to give our students greater advantages in applying to college, to capitalize on the resources in our community, to focus our budget on the needs of our students, and to ensure that their education lives up to not just the standards of new Federal laws but also the standards of our own expectations. The future belongs to our students. It is a future full of serious challenges and amazing possibilities. Please join me in preparing our students for the journey that lies ahead. My name is Jedidjah de Vries, and I am running for the Santa Barbara School Board because I believe that future is now. |
