May the Board of Directors of the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District lease, license, or grant concessions or permits for community recreation use, including but not limited to child, youth, teen, adult, elderly, intergenerational and family programs, at the proposed Isla Vista Community Center on District property commonly known as "Estero Park" and "Tipi Village"?
The Board of Directors of the Park District proposes to develop and construct the Isla Vista Community Center. The center will consist of buildings, recreation facilities, landscaped space, parking and related facilities on Park Property commonly known as Estero Park and Tipi Village. This measure, if approved by two-thirds (2/3) of Park District voters voting on the measure, will authorize the Park District to lease the proposed Isla Vista Community Center for community recreation uses or to grant concessions, licenses or permits to others for community recreation uses of the proposed Isla Vista Community Center. The financial impacts from the measure, if approved, are unknown and would depend upon the uses permitted by the Park District and the terms and conditions of any leases entered into, and any concessions or licenses granted by the Park District. s/ Gustavo E. Lavayen, Deputy County Counsel

Arguments For Measure D2004 |
FOR 26 YEARS, ISLA VISTA HAS BEEN ASKING FOR A
COMMUNITY CENTER. WE NEED YOUR VOTE TO BUILD IT! This
will be at no cost to you. A Yes Vote on Measure D will help make
this longtime dream come true!
Designed by the community, for the community, the current proposal in Estero Park includes a SKATEBOARD PARK, SOCCER FIELD, BASEKTBALL COURTS, CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUNDS, COMMUNITY GARDENS AND PICNIC AREAS. There will be facilities for the TEEN CENTER and CHILD AND SENIOR CARE. The center will have a LARGE MULTIPURPOSE HALL AND KITCHEN for community festivals, theater, parties, weddings, student events and many other activities to bring Isla Vistans together. There will also be classrooms for dance, yoga, art, and community meetings. Measure D would allow the Park District to lease park property to a partnership of non-profit agencies. These agencies will provide much-needed services and programs at the community center, benefiting area children, teens and seniors. The IVRPD was created in 1972 to provide parks and recreation for all of Isla Vista. In 32 years, we have built and maintained more than twenty parks where Isla Vistans play and relax in beautiful surroundings. Additionally, the District has acquired open spaces for restoration, habitat preservation and nature study. We continue to help to make Isla Vista the beautiful and unique community that it is today.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VOTE YES ON MEASURE D. HELP MAKE
THE DREAM OF A COMMUNITY CENTER IN ISLA VISTA COME
TRUE! MEASURE D IS NOT A TAX MEASURE. A YES VOTE COSTS
RESIDENTS NOTHING.
