As a dedicated and educated wife, mother,and community volunteer; I look foward to providing a district parent voice/perspective on the Huntington Beach City School Districts Board of Trustees. My two (2) chiildren currently attend Hawes Elementary school in the Huntington Beach City School District. My son, Matthew, is in the fourth grade and my daughter, Carolyn, is in first grade. After earning my Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, I quickly shifted my professional direction from Registered Dental Assistant to environemtnal engineering marketing and sales management. For ten years, I developed business and marketing plans, led staff development, and traveled extensively working to grow business opportunities with Fortune 500 clients. During this time my outside interests were actively volunteering with the H.B.P.D. Neighborhood Watch Program locally and the Calfornia Waste Association statewide. My past voolunteer activities include former president of the Huntington Beach Police Departments Neighborhood Watch Program. For many years I served as an active H.B.P.D. volunteer on the Neighborhood Watch board and area speakers bureau. Additionally, I have statewide board experience as past president of the California Waste Association. My duties presiding over the CWA included; developing business plans, taking the organization thru a name change, developed goals and objectives, a new mission statement, and strategic chapter development plans for all five (5) geographic chapters statewide. Volunteer experience related to the Huntington Beach City School District includes; 1) Phone Bank Coordinator for the HBCSD School Bond Modernization Committee, 2) Former Chairperson for Hawes Elementary School Site Council, 3) A current Hawes PTA Board member and Music Arts Committee Chairperson, 4) Developed an ongoing weekly parent volunteer copy committee for Hawes teachers, and 5) Sparks P.E. volunteer for Hawes school. My other current and favrite 'mom' activities include; 1)AYSO soccer coach (U7 Girls), 2) Upwards Basketball Coach, 3) Brownie Girl Scout Leader, and 4) Webelos Cub Scout leader. One of my greatest achievements was earning the 2003 VIVA Award for Hawes Elementary school. This is an award bestowed upon one or two school volunteers each year by teachers and staff. A special ceremony was held at Seacliff Elementary where Hawes teachers spoke in support of my many contributions to Hawes staff and students alike. A very special honor indeed! |
