CANDIDATE PLATFORM
PRIMISE: Community and community government are continuums, works in progress. My role, therefore, is to contribute to community governance in a positive and constructive manner in order for the continuums to move forward.
Goal: In the next four years work to solidify a positive and productive foundation of governance in order for the community to function in the present and move forward toward the future.
PLATFORM OBJECTIVES:
1. Fiscal Stability
- Be progressive within the City's means.
- upport the existing utility user tax.
- Support the efforts to stop the State from taking local monies. Keep community tax dollars local.
- Explore, develop, and adopt different methods to stabilize City revenue sources.
- Seek and utilize grant monies for one time projects (i.e.: library).
2. Facilities and Infrastructure
- Actively support the movement to revitalize and develop essential public facilities and infrastructure that have been identified as in need of improvement or development.
- Explore site and system alternatives to house and operate the City library. Ensure that El Cerrito is getting its fair share of county and state library funding and services.
- Collaborate with the School District and user groups to explore and develop the opportunities to fund and maintain athletic facilities for youth.
- Support the continual up-grade of existing parks, play areas and play equipment to meet State standards and community needs.
- Support the efforts to study funding methods and finalize the construction of a new Civic Center complex for El Cerrito.
3. City Services and Programs
- Maintain strong and up-dated police and fire services.
- Support and promote individual, youth, senior adult, and family programs and services for all of our community members.
4. Business Community
- Promote spirit of cooperation and productivity between City and businesses for the betterment of the community.
- Review issues that can promote easier, more efficient ways businesses and the City can interact with each other.
- Support a system involving business, community and city officials that periodically review policies, regulations, codes, and guidelines that affect the operation and efficiency of business and government.
5. Human Resources
- Recognize people are needed to provide basic City services.
- Retain, within the resources of the City, qualified, productive supportive employees with competitive compensation, continual training, and a productive work environment.
- Support and retain effective public safety services personnel.
6. Environment Issues
- Continue to support natural resource areas (ie: creeks) as positive environment assets to the community's quality of life.
- Promote preservation where needed and co-existence when needed.
- Support up dating and/or developing tree management and maintenance plans for City owned trees.
- Protect and maintain existing passive and active park and open space areas within the City.
7. City Development
- Encourage the completion of approved plans for quality housing and commercial development.
- Support new and existing programs that encourage sensible renovation and revitalization of our existing commercial areas. Support City efforts to participate in county, state and federal programs that encourage such activity.
