Political Philosophy for Lena Tam
Candidate for |

|
Health Care for All -- During Lena's tenure on the board, Alameda Hospital has improved language access to the community, providing bilingual signage in the Emergency Room and hiring emergency room doctors that have bilingual skills. Alameda Hospital is committed to providing compassionate, personalized, and clinically up-to-date care to all. In the two years that Alameda Hospital became a public health care district, Alameda Hospital has seen a record number of patients (75% are Alamedans) and flourishing attendance at Health Fairs. New services and programs have been developed to enhance our capabilities to meet the health care needs of our community, including CAT scans, bone density scanner (DXA) and other nuclear medicine diagnostics. Fiscal Responsibility -- Alameda voters prevented the closure of Alameda Hospital, by passing Measure A in 2002. As a board member, Lena has insured that hard-earned tax monies are spent wisely in providing high quality health care and hold management accountable for meeting financial objectives. For Alameda Hospital to continue delivering high quality health care to all patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a strong and stable financial bottom line is critical. In planning for the future, Lena is committed to passing balanced budgets and building financial reserves to save for a 'rainy day.' Quality Service through Accountability -- Under Lena's oversight on the Board, and as a member of the Finance and Management Committee, Alameda Hospital has retained and developed a specialized team of health care professionals to improve health care delivery. This team has worked together to achieve an average waiting time to see a doctor of under 30 minutes - among the shortest in the Bay Area. |
