A Public/Private Partnership to Build an Infill BART Station
For several years now I have been working on a unique project that would be the first BART Station to be constructed as a Joint Public/Private Project.
This Project would provide for the construction of the third station that was programmed in the original plans for the Dublin-Pleasanton Extension (DPX). When the extension was built in the 1990's there were not enough dollars to pay for the planned third station, so it was by-passed and only the bare infrastructure was placed in the rail line to preserve its location in the future. The land has been available on both sides of the 580 freeway for many years.
There is now a four way partnership in place between the private developer and the cities of Dublin and Pleasanton and BART to construct two parking structures, on office complex, a hotel and a 180 unit multi residential complex. This would be an enhancement to the system as it would relieve some of the pressure for parking and traffic at the existing Dublin-Pleasanton Station in the east.
It is possible that construction may begin in the near future. This is a project with a cost of over $100 million and the impetus provided by private money.
