Ballot StatementBy Kevin McCartyCandidate for City; City of Sacramento; Council District 6 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My wife, Leticia, and I bought our first house in this community four years ago. I am running for City Council to serve our neighbors. One of my favorite sayings is, "No street should be a dead end." I am really proud of my work on the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Commission. As Sacramento grows, we need to take special care not to forget the needs of each unique neighborhood and every street. Our Commission took on Stockton Boulevard. We adopted a Special Planning District that stops liquor stores and unsightly tire shops from locating on Stockton Boulevard and we approved the Stockton/Broadway Beautification Project. Before I was on the Commission, I was concerned about the many vacant lots in Sacramento. They ruin our streets and make them look blighted. I implemented incentives for homebuilders to construct affordable housing on vacant lots. I spearheaded the Pre-Apprenticeship Construction program for low-income workers trained to build affordable homes on empty parcels. And I led the attack against slumlords who ruin our neighborhoods and rip off their tenants. I was raised in Sacramento. I will raise my children here. I will work hard to build an even better Sacramento. Thank you for your consideration. |
