Create district wide fundraisers for extra curricular programs.
As a parent of a fifteen and nine year attending schools in our valley I know first hand the value of a good public education
I moved to Canyon Country in 1990 for several reasons. The most important was the quality of education. I've been very active in community service. Early on, I served as Treasurer for the Sulphur Springs PTA. I was one of the original Founders of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. I'm still involved and also serve as chairperson for numerous fundraisers. I'm currently on the Board of the Child & Family Development Center, and I'm Vice President of the local ROTC Booster Club. I want to maintain my involvement by becoming a Trustee for the Sulphur Springs School District. My husband, Carl and I recently repurchased Santa Clarita's only radio station. We just went on the air under the new call letters, K-H-T-S AM-1220, Santa Clarita's Hometown Station.
Santa Clarita is a wonderfully unique community. Our reputation as being family oriented is well deserved. Part of that reputation rests in our schools. Nearly every school in our community has been recognized for outstanding achievement. Our teachers are always in the running for awards in excellence, and most importantly, our students are achieving. In these difficult economic times, we must continue to look "outside the box" for new and innovative financial assistance. Some schools in the district are able to raise thousands of dollars because of their economically advantaged parents groups, while others are not. I'd like to create a district wide fundraiser with proceeds distributed evenly for extra curricular programs. I have a lot of good ideas that can be implemented if I am elected., I know first hand, the value of a good public education.
