Details on my views on the important issuesBy Barbara HickmanCandidate for Council Member; City of Livermore | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My aim is to serve the citizens of Livermore, to serve the common good.(For full details on my thoughts on these and other issues, please visit my campaign website at http://www.Barbara.Hickman.net.) Briefly: Performing Arts Center - I support creating a bond measure to fund construction of this project, to give voters a voice in its development. At this point I'm not convinced the residents want a regional performing arts theater, nor if the chosen location is the public's preference. I want to hear what the voters have to say and I want them to have a stake in the development. Affordable Housing - I want to see the percentage of affordable housing increase in Livermore. I strongly believe that teachers, police officers, and fire fighters should be able to live in the town where they work. Our current rate for inclusionary housing is 10%; I would like to see that increase to 15% or 20%. Development North of Livermore - I urge delaying development north of Livermore until the problems of air pollution, water quantity and quality, and traffic congestion are solved. The Environmental Impact Report on the now-defunct North Livermore Specific Plan clearly stated that conditions on these three issues are bad and will get worse and there's no mitigation. To promote further major development in that area is irresponsible; it is insensitive to current residents and unfair to new residents who would justifiably expect a high quality of living in their new home. Again, for details on these and other issues, please visit my campaign website at http://www.Barbara.Hickman.net.
