1. How would you implement your top priority?

Answer from Fred Nelson:

I will apply the law honestly, without wavering. A judge must not "legislate from the bench" by substituting personal policy preferences for choices made by the people through their legislators and constitutions. In my work on legal reform in emerging democracies, and during my tenure at the Justice Department and the White House, I advocated faithful adherence to the rule of law. It is essential that our community now renew its pledge to that goal.

Answer from Bruce B. Whitman:

The first step in achieving fairness and efficiency is listening carefully to those who come before the Court. A Judge can only be fair when he takes the time to learn and understand the issues. Efficiency is first and foremost a product of clarity. Once I have learned and clarified, I can then accomplish fairness and efficiency and render prompt written decisions which logically communicate the bases of the decision.

Responses to questions asked of each candidate are reproduced as submitted to the League.  Candidates' statements are presented as submitted. Word limits for answers are 75 words for each question. Direct references to opponents are not permitted
