Candidate's StatementBy William YatesCandidate for Mayor; City of Morro Bay | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
It has been nearly six years since I left office. During that time, I solo sailed the Pacific for over three years, spent the next year-and-a-half commercial fishing, and lately have been writing and focusing on our business interests. The many months I spent alone at sea afforded me time for a great deal of introspection. I enjoyed serving as Morro Bay's mayor from 1992 through 1996. Indeed, it was one of the highlights of my life. I believe I did a good job for the community during those years, and now have a strong desire to serve again. My definition of a good mayor is one who operates on a high ethical plane; works hard on behalf of all members of the community; is active, visible, and available; is committed to helping those in crisis; and leads City Council meetings fairly, respectfully, and with decorum. Few things change a man like extreme solitude surrounded by the grandeur of ever-changing nature. I am more tranquil, more accepting, definitely more appreciative of life and our environment. If the citizens of Morro Bay elect me as their mayor, I will again serve them with respect, energy, and focus. |
