"Versatile" is very possibly the best word in the English language to describe Julie Tacker. A "Jill of all trades," Julie is an accomplished singer and artist and, although still in her thirties, has already earned her living: by working as an automobile mechanic at Sears in San Luis Obispo and alongside her husband, Tom, for a firm in Morro Bay; helping patients at Seashell Communities in Morro Bay in her capacity as a Certified Activities Director; serving residents as a Physical Education Instructor for San Luis Adult School; and creating and selling her paintings (mostly watercolor and pastels).

Having recently repaired her septic tank after a friend drove over and damaged it, Julie is also probably more directly experienced in handling wastewater "problems" (yuuch!) than any of her opponents in the coming election. If you've resided in Baywood Park/Los Osos for an appreciable amount of time, chances are you probably already know Julie. She has lived here since 1971. The eldest daughter of the Lindemans --Jean (a much beloved teacher at Baywood Elementary and a hard-working community volunteer for many years) and John (a general contractor who, among many good works, donated his expertise and countless "on-the-job" man hours to transform Trinity Methodist Church from a simple "A-frame" to the landmark it is today), Julie was raised with a strong work ethic and selfless sense of community.

Despite a frequently and often disconcertingly changing local education system, Julie has received (and excelled in) all her formal education within just a few miles of her front door: at Sunnyside and Morro Elementary Schools, Los Osos Jr. High, Morro Bay High School (where she earned membership on the Academic Decathlon Team), and at Cuesta College (where she distinguished herself both as a student in the Industrial Arts Program and as a member of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble -- earning a soloist's spot at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals).

Julie is currently (and has been since 1999) a PTA Vice-president at Baywood Elementary School; for three years as Hospitality Chairwoman and now serving as Membership Chairwoman. Early in 2002, Julie coordinated the highly successful "Spaghetti for Letty" Benefit to aid 9 year-old Letty Gomez and her family through the struggle with bone cancer. In 2001 - 2002, Julie was the School Site Council Chairwoman at Baywood Elementary, and in 2000, served as the Josh Sanders Benefit Coordinator. That same year, in addition to helping students with many worthwhile projects, Julie painted the 55-foot x 4-foot mural "Audience of Bears" in the Baywood Elementary gymnasium and created the emblem that graces the center of the gymnasium floor.

Today, Julie and her husband Tom (they were married in 1984) reside in the windmill house Julie helped her family build during her childhood and teens -- with their daughter Marly-12, and sons Teddy-10 and Clayton -7-- and pets Butch (golden retriever), and Hunter and Pepper (cats).

Although she's never previously entertained political aspirations and, indeed, distrusts most politicians, Julie feels compelled to "run" for one of the three available seats of the Los Osos Community Services District Board of Directors. She is both dismayed, angered and saddened that fully half of her and her family' friends -- homeowners and renters alike -- may be driven out of their homes and community by what the present CSD Board admits are the unaffordable costs of the proposed sewer -- and that the center of our town may be permanently corrupted by their proposed installation of a sludge, stench, and toxic danger-producing nightmare of a sewage treatment plant mere yards from our library, Community Center, park, tennis courts -- and well within an Endangered Species Habitat Area (ESHA).

She is determined to -- at the very least -- make sure the proposed plant is moved away from the heart of our community.

If you love our town and want to help save it for yourself, your friends, and future generations of all life, you'll Vote For Julie Tacker
