Top Priority: Religious freedom and parental rights, a safe haven for children where no one attempts to weaken their faith.

Almost a year ago, I began to carefully study my son's 7th grade social studies textbook. It was Christmas vacation and I had great plans. "Work on the book, work on the book" was continually impressed upon me from God. "But GooOOood," I whined, "what about the party?" "Work on the book" was His constant reply, and I did, wondering why it couldn't wait.

But God knew that in Byron County a lawsuit was being contemplated by another outraged mom, who objected to the three week course where her son was to "become a Muslim." He was to take a Muslim name, recite the Koran (Islam's holy book) fast and pray to Allah, wear Muslim robes and play a "jihad" game.

I had no idea what was happening in Byron County as I persued media attention to what I found in my sons' textbook. There is incredible bias leading children to Islam while sharply criticizing Christianity. In the Christian section, (6th grade textbook), the Jesus described is what ISLAM believes about Jesus, not Christians. This textbook, published by Houghton Mifflin, was the only textbook funded by the State of California for the past 11 years. Houghton Mifflin's president and CEO was previously an Islamic elementary school teacher.

I was at an expensive luncheon in Newport Beach with politicians and the media successfully gaining media attention when it came over the wire that someone filed a lawsuit in Byron County, with some of the details disclosed. Suddenly the media wanted to know what our children were learning. I felt as though I lifted up my newly finished 10 page review, timed perfectly by God, and WHOOOOOSH, it was faxed, emailed and reported all over the nation.

God had a good reason for me to give up my Christmas vacation. His timing was perfect.

Without Byron County, no one would have believed my review. Without my review, Byron County wouldn't have had all the documented evidence to support the claims. Yet even with both complaints, it was an uphill battle, and the lawsuit in Byron County is still going on.

Through all of this it was discovered that children were asked to pray to Allah at our local school as well, on their hands and knees, witnessed by mulitple students. Our school board, though supplied with names of witnesses and the teacher, refuses to respond.

With the help of Thomas More Law Center, Pacific Justice Institute, Daniel Pipes, PhD, Rev. Austin Miles, and many media contacts including Fox News, http://www.wnd.com and Assist Ministries, pressure was placed on California's Dept. of Education, which recently began scheduling hearings to review new social studies textbooks.

Within two weeks of California's announcement, it was reported that Houghton Mifflin is to be sold, most likely in PIECES.

Yet through all this I have discovered so many Antichrist philosophies and instruction in modern school curriculum. I have objected repeatedly at school board meetings with no response.

I submitted a book series published by Tommy Nelson, called "My Life as a Smashed Burrito." An incredibly witty, well written series about a boy and how he deals with life situations, for instance a bully at camp. Though a Christian book, reference to Jesus or prayer, etc., are mild. Because so many other books in the library compel children to read about interaction with pagan gods, there should be no objection to this series. "Accelerated Reader", our public schools choice for test material, validated the worthiness of this book series by incorporating it into the system. I offered to purchase the series for our school library as well as the test material, but it was rejected with a drawn out explanation outlining the requirements of the school library, which repeatedly sought "pluralistic" attributes. "Pluralistic" does NOT omit Christianity, in fact, a book is not to be rejected because of religion. The school board has not responded to my request for a more specific explanation. I find it outrageous that books promoting injection of poison for a mercy killing into an infant's brain, because of its mental retardation, is acceptable while a book about a boy coping with a bully at a Christian camp is not.

I was also told that homosexuality is mandated by the state to be taught in sex education classes. This is not factual. Gov. Davis mandates that steps must be taken to promote tolerance of homosexuals. Gov. Davis also appointed a task force to make RECOMMENDATIONS regarding homosexual sex training, but it is NOT mandatory. It astounds me that public education does not see a danger in validating homosexual acts to boys who later shower together in gym class. Apparently public school officials do not remember the CURIOSITY and DARING of teenage boys. There is a huge lawsuit just waiting to happen.

Please understand me. What homosexuals decide to do together is THEIR BUSINESS, and I'm all for teaching tolerance, but to teach homosexuality as a validated option to impressionable children should be outlawed. It is not the place of public school to decide issues like this for our children, and L.A. County actually uses gay pornography as resource materials! (articles at my website)

I am not running for school board because of ambition. For me, this is sacrifice. I would devote long hours to all issues and research the facts. For six years I analyzed budgets in a county position, so the territory is not completely foreign to me. Additionally I would do everything I could to restore traditional family values in school, and fairness regarding religion, protecting the faith and religious freedom of all children.

This county has a choice. If I win the election, I'll do the best that I can to bring Christian literature and family values back into the schools. If I lose, I'm released to go. I will wash my hands of it. But it is important that San Luis Obispo has and makes a choice. And all of heaven is watching. Not because of me. It's not about me at all. It's about choice. To God, it always has been.
