Howard Hobbs Candidate Statement, Diablo Water District Board of DirectorsBy Howard G. HobbsCandidate for Director, 4 Year; Diablo Water District | |

I have a strong desire to give to the community of Oakley by serving on the Diablo Water District Board of Directors. I have always had the interests of the People of Oakley in mind by ensuring that we always have a reliable supply of high quality water at our taps. The experience I gained while on the Board has given me the knowledge necessary to maintain our water system. While I have served on the Board of Directors we have negotiated with Contra Costa Water District for a Joint owned, state of art Water Treatment Plant. This Plant has provided high quality reliable water service for the people of Oakley for the last ten years. The past four (4) years we have been able to hold the line on water rates, even with the increasing cost of water we must buy from Contra Costa Water and large increases in electric rates we have had no rate increases. I recently voted to offer low income Seniors & Disabled a 25% discount on their monthly service charges. This discount offers some help, without burdening the rest of the rate payers. The budgets I have voted for while on the Board are frugal and focus on the essential services that need to provide responsive customer service while maintaining the water system in tip top shape so the water will always be there when you need it. All monies collected by the District are use to maintain the water pipes, treatment plant and the reliability of the rest of our water system. I pledge to you that I will continue to work hard to avoid increases in water rates, continue to search for lower cost sources of water and continue to keep you informed of the activities of the District. |
