I have been a proponent advocating increased levels of public safety, better transportation, managed growth, and better schools.During the last four years as a councilmember for the City of Brentwood I have taken the lead in doubling the number of police personnel, doubling the number of fire stations and tripling the number of firefighters. I introduced the fire sprinkler and mandated police officer per 1000 population ratio ordinances ensuring our level of public safety keeps up with our projected growth. I am now working with the consolidation of the fire districts to ensure adequare service standards. I want a paramedic on each fire engine and a new fire station in North Brentwood. I also sit on the Brentwood Police Station committee assisting in the building of our new Police Facility scheduled to open in fall 2003. I supported entering into over $3 million dollars of matching funds with our school districts to ensure needed school facilities are built in our city. Maintaining these important partnerships with the school districts is one of my highest priorities. I fought hard to ensure the opening of the first segment of the Highway 4 ByPass and continue to fight to ensure the other two segments open simultaneously. Currently on Transplan (RTPC) I am fighting to bring eBART to Brentwood to connect to the Pittsburg BART station. A few of the projects I have submitted for funding are adding extra lanes on Vasco Road, building Highway 239 connecting Vasco Road to Highway 205, and improving the Camino Diablo/Vasco Road intersection. I hold an important seat on the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and sit on the CCTA Planning Committee charged with planning the renewal of Measure C which is the 1/2 cent sales tax put aside for transportation projects in Contra Costa County. Currently there are between $4 billion and $5 billion worth of transportation project requests from each of the Regional Transportation Planning Committees (RTPC) in Contra Costa. The renewal of Measure C will only generate $1.06 billion. Doing the math is indicitive that many projects will not be funded. It is important Brentwood retains the seat on CCTA to ensure our projects receive maximum representation. If I were not re-elected, Brentwood would lose the CCTA seat and it would go to Pittsburg or Oakley. |
