Please vote for me on November 5, 2002 for Antioch City CounciDear Fellow Citizen: I am asking for your support and for your vote on November 5th. As a member of your City Council, I believe I can make a positive difference in our community. My views, values and vision are consistent with the majority of Antioch's residents; you deserve an advocate on the City Council. Traffic and growth are huge issues for us. Our current infrastructure -- roads, public transportation, schools, access to medical treatment and emergency services -- is woefully inadequate. Until our infrastructure can accommodate our current population, NEW RESIDENTIAL GROWTH SHOULD BE COMPLETELY STOPPED. We must immediately focus on transportation issues and attracting livable wage jobs with employee benefits to Antioch. While I object to more residential growth until our infrastructure can effectively accommodate it, genuine affordable housing must be included in residential developments currently in the approval process. The safety of citizens' is also a high priority for me. Our extraordinary growth has left us without an adequate number of police officers. I will tirelessly support the hiring of more police officers and the development of better incentives to retain veteran officers. Antioch underpays its law enforcement officials. That's wrong. We need to fix that. I will build effective collaborations on education issues between the state, the county, the city, our schools and parents. Working with education officials and parents toward world-class schools is the right thing for our City Council to do for our children and for our community. The quality of Antioch's schools directly affects our city's cultural and economic future and our image. The city council must set the tone for Antioch's environmental agenda, and Antioch must have an aggressive, positive environmental agenda. This will require environmental leadership, a commitment to sound environmental stewardship and to conducting the City's business consistent with the principals of environmental sustainability. Have we shown leadership in the area of alternative fuel vehicles? NO. Have we shown leadership in the area of conservation? NO. Have we shown environmental leadership in general? NO. I believe we should immediately explore evolving our city's vehicle fleet toward maximum use of alternative fuel vehicles. We need more public involvement in community decision-making processes. The City Council and its boards and commissions must do a better job of listening to our citizens and the students in our school system. I will work to make this happen. Please vote for me in November and allow me the honor of serving you as a city council member. Call me at (925) 522-0324 or email be at aaluevano@aol.com if you would like to volunteer on my campaign or put one of my campaign signs in your yard.
