This display of routes looks impressive. It is, however, very misleading. Some of the lines shown are commute hours only runs. This means that the people who work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and never work later - nor stay late at a destination, use this line. The people who sometimes work other hours, or who work on other days, must often drive to work. And if that, why bother with the bus? Other lines stop running in the middle of the day, others stop running around 7:00 p.m. Many others stop running around 9:00 p.m. From over a hundred lines to less than a dozen at night, AC Transit fails to provide service to "All the people, all the time". Alameda's Bay Farm Island had one hour weekend service in 1992. Now, there is no weekend service on line 49. |
