Ms. Eastin has my guarded optimism. I have two issues:As a potential Superintendent, Ms. Eastin has my guarded optimism. I have two issues: 1. Can Newark afford Delaine Eastin and fill the other positions without impacting current programs (e.g., reading recovery); and 2. Can we insure buy-in from all interested parties. With regard to fiscal responsibility, I will use whatever means to reduce shortages for the district's economies. We need to reach an accord that is fair to both parties ensuring that funds are not borrowed from the general account. With regard to item two, I insist that the Newark Teachers Assoc., CSEA, city, community, and others play a vital role in the selection process. Without their buy-in, we will not realize the success that awaits us in Newark. |
