I have been a resident of Union City for thirty years. Married to Jim Kelly for 33 years, I have a bachelor's degree in History from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Our children, Michael, Brian, Meg, Kate and Colleen and our Daughter-in law, Karen Sunnergren Kelly have all graduated from New Haven schools. Our oldest grandchild will start Kindergarten in New Haven next year. The child of a teacher, I began my experience in New Haven as a substitute teacher. I have been active in School Site Coucils, Past President of the School Community Program Council, Parent Club member, Chairperson of the 1998 "Yes For Kids" School bond, member of the New Haven Schools Foundation Board of Directors. I have been part of booster clubs for many activities, including Band and Color Guard, football and volleyball. During my twelve years on the New Haven School Board I have continued to be active in and for the community. I am the Past President of the California Association For Suburban School Districts, Past President of the New Haven School Board, former Executive Director of the Union City Chamber of Commerce, Union City Lion's Club member. I have received the Union City Volunteer of the Year Award, New Haven's Annual Friend of Education Award, Union City Chamber of Commerce Community Spirit Award and the California State Legislature has named me its Woman of the Year for the 18th Assembly District. |
