STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT We must ensure our children receive a premier education that prepares them to become the leaders of tomorrow. The District must continue to provide programs that ensure students meet and exceed academic achievement standards. I will support enhanced parental involvement through "parent compacts," agreements between school and family to ensure their mutual commitment to the student's education. FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY We must ensure that the District adopt a fiscally responsible budget. To attract and retain qualified professionals, we must advocate for maximized resources at both the state and local level. I will continue to insist that the District maintain fiscal accountability by involving the public in the budgeting process and disclosing clear financial information. ADEQUATE FACILITIES We must ensure that our students have safe, comfortable and appropriate classroom facilities for learning. In 1997, San Leandro voters approved Measure A, a $54 million school facilities bond, which was the first step in modernizing existing facilities and constructing new ones. However, Measure A is not enough. Antiquated school sites are becoming even more overcrowded with an ever-increasing student enrollment. I will work to address our major facilities needs and growing student population by advocating for the construction of new campuses. |
