Modify the "3 Strikes" lawBy Michael K. "Mike" SchmierCandidate for Attorney General; State of California; Democratic Party | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I will work to modify that law, to restrict its application to crimes which are truly serious. The concept of the "3 Strikes" law is good. Our communities should be protected from habitual criminals who commit serious crimes. The problem comes in the application of the law. Recently the a Federal Appeals Court overturned the imposition of a life sentence for a criminal whose third "serious" offense was shoplifting. I will work with the state Legislature to modify that law, to restrict its application to crimes which are truly serious. |
