Hunter Stern is a Business Representative for Local 1245 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and has been the Local's ranking representative in San Francisco since 1996. This practical experience in representation makes Hunter well suited for service on the DCCC. As a union representative, Hunter is responsible for protecting the interests of his constituents, including contract enforcement, grievances, labor-management negotiations and general contract bargaining. His responsibilities also include regular contact with employers, elected officials, city and state agencies and political interest groups. Hunter has extensive experience in grassroots campaigning. As a delegate to several bay area county Labor Councils, he has participated in phone banks, registered voters, walked precincts and distributed literature in local elections since 1997. He has hands-on knowledge of organizing, having participated in both outside and internal organizing drives as part of his Labor Representative activities. Hunter has detailed experience, through representation and study, of the state electricity deregulation, energy and water issues which currently face San Francisco. Additionally, he has previous work and educational experience in land use planning and public policy formulation and implementation. Hunter grew up and completed high school in the Washington DC area. He moved to the Bay Area after completing his undergraduate work at Brown University in 1984 and has lived here for all but two years since. Next month marks his fourteenth year of marriage to Jill Palmer Stern and is the proud father of two children. Cate is 6 years old and attends kindergarten in the SFUSD. Hawkins is nearly 4 years old and is in nursery school. |
