Judicial Philosophy: People usually come to court
when some traumatic event has happened to them
such as being victimized by crime, being seriously
injured, or going through a divorce. Judges should
understand this. Also, both sides should have a full
and fair opportunity to present their case.
Changes to the justice system: It is sometimes difficult
for people or modest means, or even upper middle
class people, to access the courts because of the very
high cost of paying for a lawyer and the complexity of
the legal rules. It is important for the courts to be open
to all members of our community. This may require the
justice system to look at ways to reduce the complexity
and cost of going to court.
