This information is provided by the candidate |
Not all CPA's are created equal. In the paragraphs that follow, I will explain the importance of relevant and recent on the job experience. This is a complex and serious position.EXPERIENCE IS CRUCIAL Relevant and recent on the job experience is crucial to successfully run a very large and complex office with over 130 employees. I have devoted my career to working in the Auditor-controller's office for over 20 years. I believe that in order to be an expert at your craft, you must focus on that craft. Remember Lee Iacocca? He was a very successful Chief Executive officer for Chrysler Corporation. He became an expert in the auto industry. The reason was that he spent his entire career life learning and perfecting his craft in that industry. He started at the bottom and worked his way up the ranks. I wanted to be certified, so I worked four years in public accounting, with my long-term goal of working in a large government entity. I started as an internal auditor for the Fresno County Auditor-Controller/Treasurer-Tax Collector's office and worked my way up to Division Chief of Revenue Reimbursements Division. I am the only candidate that has ever worked in the Fresno County Auditor-Controller's Office, currently managing a Division of 25 employees. Morale at my Revenue and Reimbursements Division is very positive and efficiency at an all-time high. When elected, I plan to expand that efficiency and positive environment to the rest of the Divisions. This is a serious job, with serious issues to be resolved. I have considered myself a "self imposed understudy", by observing over the last 22 years what has worked well and what needs improvement. When I was elected to the Fresno County Retirement Board 12 years ago, I decided to "perfect my Craft." I studied and acquired an NASD Series 7 Securities License. That has given me the investment background and expertise to make knowledgeable, informed and prudent investment decisions. The Fresno County Retirement Board currently manages over $1.6 billion in pension fund assets. This is serious business. That is why it is crucial for the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer-Tax Collector to hit the ground running by possessing the necessary knowledge of the office, necessary investment experience, and necessary leadership and people skills. I bring all these attributes to the table. CLOSING STATEMENT As I explained above, it is crucial that the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer-Tax Collector have the necessary experience and insight needed to successfully manage this complex office of 130+ employees. I have diligently worked in this office for the last 22 years. I know first hand of the demands and responsibilities of the office. I am asking you, the taxpayer, to empower me to step up to a role requiring both experience and dedication. In return, I promise to run a superior, prudent and efficient office. Remember, when it comes to public service, commitment counts. When it comes to your money, integrity and experience counts. On Election Day, I hope you will make your vote count, and vote Bill Casarez for Auditor-Controller/Treasurer-Tax Collector. |
