Ballot Statement

I have served on the Alameda County Board of Education since 1992.I was elected President of the Board in 1994/1999 and currently serve as Vice-President and Chair the Board's Budget Committee. In 1996, I was elected President of the California County Boards of Education. Currently, I am a member of the Executive Board of the Alameda County School Boards Association.

My priority is to support services and programs that meet the multicultural educational needs of the diverse student population of our county.

My community service includes membership on the Berkeley Unified School District Budget Committee, Facilites Task Force and numerous Boards and Commissions during my 27 years in the City of Berkeley.

I am a graduate of UC Berkeley, father of two young men educated in the Berkeley Public schools and the spouse of community activist and veteran educator, Dorothy Wiggins, Principal, Claremont Middle School.

I remain committed to: serving the needs of local school districts; the needs of "at risk' students served by the County Board; safe school environments; student achievement and success.
