If we expect teachers to teach and students to learn, we need to provide textbooks and support materials for students and teachers.
School sites need sufficient funds to provide textbooks and support materials for all students in the district. The need is especially critical at the high school. Budget allocations to sites need to be based on a cost-of-program basis. High school programs are more expensive to operate than middle or elementary school programs. To ensure that all students have a fair chance if passing the High School Exit Exam, our students and teachers, K-12, need to have the textbooks, support materials and training to make it happen. If we expect teachers to help our students achieve, we need to make certain that everything we do as a school board centers on the question, How will our collective action benefit the learning for our kids? We cannot hold teachers to high standards and students to high levels of achievement If we do not provide adequate levels of support and funding.
