Full Biography for Jim Baker

|
I am a fourth generation Humboldt County native, having graduated from Arcata High School in 1962. My mother was a public school teacher in the county for 20 years. I graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A with honors in Speech Pathology in 1969. After a brief stint in the Coast Guard, entered the geography graduate program at San Diego State University while working as a land surveyor. Eventually obtained a Professional Land Surveyor's license and worked privately in that field and for several public agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area until 1995. Returned to Humboldt County with my wife, who is presently a teacher in the Southern Humboldt Unified School District, and our daughter, who is in the 7th grade at Redway Elementary. I am looking forward to working with all the diverse residents of the Southern Humboldt Unified School District to develop a united approach to meeting the challenges our district faces. |
