TERRENCE O'DONNELL Biographical Sketch Judge Terrence O'Donnell is seeking election to the Ohio Supreme Court. Judge O'Donnell became a member of the Ohio Court of Appeals, Eighth Appellate District for Cuyahoga County, on January 6, 1995, when Chief Justice Thomas Moyer administered the oath of office. Prior to election to the Court of Appeals, Judge O'Donnell served on the Common Pleas Court, having been appointed by Governor James Rhodes in 1980, elected in 1982, and re-elected in 1984 and 1990. Prior to election to judicial office, Judge O'Donnell practiced law with the firm of Marshman, Snyder and Corrigan. Judge O'Donnell was born in Cleveland on February 11, 1946. He attended St. Mark-grade school and St. Edward High School, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1964 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Kent State University and received his B.A. degree in Political Science in 1968. Judge O'Donnell received his J.D. degree from Cleveland State University in 1971 where he was a member of the Law Review and was admitted to practice law in November of that year. The Judge was a schoolteacher prior to beginning his professional career as a law clerk and research assistant to Justice J.J.P. Corrigan of the Ohio Supreme Court in 197 1. In 1972, he returned to Cleveland and served as law clerk on the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Appellate District, working for Judge John M. Manos and Judge John V. Corrigan, then entered private practice with the firm of Marshman, Snyder and Corrigan in Cleveland. Judge O'Donnell has served as a member of the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial Statistical Accounting Committee, and currently serves on the Court's Professionalism Commission. He is also a member of the Public Understand Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association, and has served as chairman of the Cleveland Bar Association Law Related Education Committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Our Lady of the Wayside, which assists those who are physically and mentally challenged. He also serves as Executive Director of Cleveland's St. Patrick's Day Parade, and has coached Little League baseball in his community of Rocky River. He has taught religion in the St. Bernadette P.S.R. program, and is President of the Fathers Club of Magnificat High School in Rocky River. Judge O'Donnell and his wife, Mary Beth, reside in Rocky River. They have four children: Terrence, a second year law student at Notre Dame; Michael, a Junior at John Carroll University; Colleen, a freshman at Miami University; and Nora, a senior at Magnificat High School. |
