THE TIM BLACK FOR JUSTICE COMMITTEE 1209 SYCAMORE STREET CINCINNATI, OH 45210 (513) 784-1256; (513) 784-0627 (FAX) Tim@Black.org. (E-mail) JUDGE TIM BLACK BIOGRAPHY Tim Black is a top-rated, experienced judge running for the Ohio Supreme Court. He is the endorsed candidate for the Supreme Court by the Ohio Democratic Party. Judge Black is a highly respected Cincinnati municipal court judge. Per Cincinnati Magazine, "Termed by various lawyers both the 'best,' and 'brightest,' Judge Black is praised for being patient, considerate, compassionate and 'knowledgeable in a scholarly way.' An attorney who represented the opposing side on a highly emotional issue in the days before Black went on the bench, praises his dignity and class. 'You know you'll get a fair shake,' says another. He doesn't give either side a leg up." Judge Black was the highest rated judge on the 1999 ballot in Hamilton County by the Cincinnati Bar Association's annual survey of attorneys. Judge Black will bring to the Ohio Supreme Court a practical perspective rooted in fundamental fairness drawn from his experience as a tested trial judge and his application of the laws of our State to real people every day in his courtroom. Judge Black is also recognized as a statewide judicial leader on family violence issues. Judge Black leads the effort to improve the judicial system to better protect victims of domestic violence and provide families with the support they need in such a traumatic time. He understands that domestic violence is a root cause of other violence in our communities, with children being its most vulnerable victims. Judge Black started the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council to increase communication, coordination and uniformity within the criminal justice system and the community so as to reduce the occurrences of domestic violence. Judge Black also trains police officers and other judges throughout Ohio on the law concerning domestic violence and has received the Cincinnati Coalition on Domestic Violence's highest award for his efforts on this issue. As a father of two, a former teacher, and a youth sports coach, Judge Black has been involved in children's issues his entire adult life, with a record of over 20 years of community service. He has served as vice president of ProKids, an organization which represents abused and neglected children through the court system, a task force member for Adoptive Parents Support Organization, a support group for adoptive families, president of Invest in Neighborhoods, an organization of city neighborhood councils which promotes economic development in blighted areas, and treasurer, Summerbridge Cincinnati, a summer school program for elementary school students. Judge Black received his A. B. from Harvard University in 1975 and obtained his law degree from Chase College of Law in 1983 while working full-time as a teacher. Prior to serving his community as a judge, Black was a trial attorney for ten years with a prestigious Cincinnati law firm. Judge Black is forty-six and married to Marnie Chapman Black (for 23 years). He and Marnie have two daughters ages 9 and 14 and live in Cincinnati, Ohio. ### Visit our Web site at http://www.tim.black.org Paid for by The Tim Black for Justice Committee, 1209 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45210; (513) 784-1256, (513) 784-0627 (fax); e-mail: tim@black.org; Tim Black, Candidate.
