I strongly believe that we can all make a difference, by pulling together as a community an doing our part in making sure this School District is one we can be proud of. I feel we must all be held accountable for making sure each student receives the highest level of education. All students must be educated equally and fairly. All students have the right to a strong academic teacher; a well designed curiculum, sufficient books, and an efficient/effective School Board that stands accountable for making it happen. I have been a Windsor resident since 1992, married, blessed with one child, attending the Windsor Middle School. I have volunteered extensively in the Windsor Schools over the last eigth years. I worked on getting the School Bond passed, I helped implement the Great Academic Brain Wave Fundraiser, raising over $75,000.00 in three years, I spent 3 years on the Technology Committee,I helped with the funding and equipment for the Lab at Brooks School, I was on the Committee to evaluate new hire teachers for the High School, I participated in the evaluation of presentations by the High School graduate students, and assisted in classrooms, after school programs, and field trips. I have always kept myself informed on issues brought before the Board. I attended this years budget meeting, and almost all the Board meetings over the last year. Children are my passion, and their education is my Agenda! I believe we have three immediate pressing issues in our District. First the curriculum - we can wait no longer, we must strengthen our curriculum to be inline with State standards. We must purchase the books that correlate with these programs. If we do not do this now, we will find our students not being able to pass the new stringent exit exams, therefore, after 13 years of hard work, they will not receive a diploma. Second is growth - It seems as though every year we experience an unexpected influx of new students. This year we experienced the largest kindergarten class we have every seen. Due to the new Santa Rosa/Mark west reconfiguration, we have experienced more 7th graders entering our schools than ever before. At present we have approximately 4,400 students in this District. We must look towards the future and plan for it. Third is accountability - I believe that accountability starts with the parents, and follows with the student, teacher, principal, district office, but it stops with the Board of Trustees. We must have the kind of communication that when a question is asked, there is a resonable answer. After carefully reviewing my profile, I hope you will consider me, Deborah Crandall as your representative on the Windsor Unified School Board of Trustees |
