Santa Rosa has been our home since 1987. Our four children have been and continue to be educated in our city schools and when our youngest son graduates, I will have been involved in the Santa Rosa City School District for 20 years. I am currently a little more than half way through my tenure. My interest in education began long before I arrived in Santa Rosa. I received a B. A. in history and a New York Teaching Credential (7-12) in 1975 from Manhattanville College. I have not been engaged in teaching since starting our family in 1980, but my interest and commitment to education has not faltered. My background in education is invaluable to the emotional and intellectual connection I have to our schools, My school volunteer career began in 1984 when I was President of the Board of Directors of the Mt. Tamalpais/Strawberry Preschool in Mill Valley. In the years since, I have been a very involved parent in every aspect of our schools. I have always felt it important not only to volunteer, but also to fulfill a leadership position. Aside from participating in an array of fundraisers, committees and clerical assists, I have been a room parent, every year, in every class our children have attended. I have been on the parent boards of all three schools, holding the position of President at both the middle and high school level, for a total of four years. The boards I have led have seen increased membership, increased participation and successful streamlining and efficiency. The difficult issues we tackled, resolved successfully with emphasis on consensus building, communication within our school communities and full understanding of peoples' needs and viewpoints. |
